At Google headquarters yesterday, Google execs went out of their way to assure financial analysts that the company operated with traditional financial controls.

SF Chronicle: Eric Schmidt, chief executive of the popular search engine, went to the unusual length of reassuring analysts that, indeed, the company does hold team meetings, create objectives that workers care about and has a board of directors exercising oversight.

"One of the great secrets of Google is that we are not quite as unconventional as we say we are," Schmidt said.

Google Co-founder Larry Page went on to say ... "We're trying to be ruthlessly efficient about running our business. We're trying to make a lot of money. But we aren't necessarily going to make money from everything we have."
